KARTHIK POORNIMA SIGNIFICANCE & IMPORTANCE

Kartika POORNIMA (Kartika Purnima) is a Hindu holy day celebrated on the full moon day or the fifteenth lunar

day of Kartika (November–December). It is also known as Tripuri POORNIMA and Tripurari POORNIMA. It is sometimes called Deva-Diwali or Deva-Deepawali - the festival of lights of the gods. The Karthik Purnima festival also coincides with the Sikh festival of Guru Nanak Jayanti

1. The Full Moon POORNIMA day of the Shukla paksha (waxing moon) of the KARTHIK month is considered very auspicious.

2. It marks the end of Karthik month and start of Margshirsha.

3.  It also ends the Sharad Ritu and marks the start of Hemant Ritu. As per Ayurveda pitta gets aggravated in shard and Kapha in Hemant Ritu.

4.  With it also starts the winter.

5. It is also called Diwali of the Gods and Tripuri Purnima. The day marks the victory of Lord Shiva over the demons Tripuri.  TripuriPurnima is one of the most propitious days for worshipping of Shiva, next only to the Maha Shivaratri.

6. Karthik bath at Ganga is considered one of the mashes sans (holy baths) of the year.  It gives the required vitamin D. As it marks the start of winter it is also the last day to take Ganga Snana.

7.  With it also starts the marriage season. Maximum marriages take place on this day.

8.  The whole month of ‘Kartika’ is considered sacred among all the twelve months of the year with a festival almost every third day. The last five days are considered more sacred (Panchaka) and ends with Kartika Poronima.  The five days are devoted to worship of Tulsi, Awala, Shiva and sun bath.

9.  Jains celebrate the Purnima as Deva Diwali with the worship of Lord Mahavira.

10. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day for his birth of Matsya (fish) avatar.

11. It’s also the birthday of Vrinda, the epitome of the Tulsi plant and of lord Kartikeya, who is the chief of all gods and is the last day to perform the ‘Tulsi Vivah.

12. Karthik Poornima is also dedicated to the dead ancestors.

13. The Kartik Purnima festival also coincides with Guru Nanak’s Birthday.

KARWA CHAUTH: How to Observe and do puja

This Year KARWA Chauth is on November 2nd 2012. This time i will tell you how we can do the Puaj during KARWA Chauth.
'KARWA Chauth' is the festival observed by the married women of our country. It is celebrated for ensuring wedded bliss and wishing long life for their husbands and children.On this day married women keep a fast for the well-being and long life of their husbands. The celebration of Karwa Chauth varies from region to region depending on the culture and traditions of that state.
It falls on the day of Chaturthi ( 4th day of the month ) month of Karthik , Krishna Paksha. Women observe fasts all days long, then worship the 'Karwa' and the elderly woman of the family narrates the legend of Karwa Chauth (the narration of Vrat Katha (Story)). Then they wait for the moon to rise and as soon as the moon is sighted, prayers are offered to the moon. The fasting women first observe the moon through a sieve and then break their fast. The first sip of water and the first bite of food are offered by the husband.

Puja Ki tayari:

Puja Samagri: Things needed to do PujaFruit,Flower,Nariyal (Coconut),Mithai (Sweets) , Mitti ka Karwa: 1 , Jak ka lota:1, Pital ka karwa:1, Chalani, Prasad ke liye Mithai (Sweets),Shiv Parvati Ganesh ki  tasveer,Paan ka patta (betel Leaves)Supari,Deep,Dhoop,Akshat, Agarbatti,Chalani (Sieve),Karwa Chauth Calendar
Note: If you don't have a Peetal Karwa you can use Mitti ka Karwa.

How to do Puja:

• Clean the Place where you are going to Do Pooja

• Make a aplana,rangoli aur chok there.

• Keep one Wooden Plat over it. Cover the wooden Plat by a red Cloth.

• Keep Shiv Parvati Ganesh Photo Frmae over the wooden Plat. Some People also keep Gaua Maa (made with cow Dung). This is not possible in Cities. So you can do the Puja with Photo Frame only.  When i have observed my 1st Kawa Chauth my mom had send Gaura Ma so i also kept that.

• Paste the Karwa Chauth Calendar in the Wall where you are doing Puja. Kawra Chuth Calender is easily available in any Puja store and will look like the following: I got 1st type of Karwa Chauth Calendar:

• Karwa Decoration: 

• Take Turmeric and add water to the Turmeric and make a smooth Paste. Apply this Turmeric Paste to both the Karwa (Mitti ka Karwa and Petal Ka Karwa).

• Take one of the Karwa (Mitti ka karwa) add Dhan and sweets onto it. Keep a Lid of Karwa over it. Keep Some Batasa (sugar) and some money over the Lid. Your one Karwa is Ready. This Karwa will be for mother In Law.

• Take Another Karwa (Pital ka karwa). Repeat the same with this Karwa also. This Karwa will be for You. We will keep both the Karwa near the Shiv Parvati Photo.

• Take a spherical shape water vessel of made from either brass or copper. Keep it filled with water and keep aside.

• Light a Akhand Jyoti. which should be Light  throughout while we are Doing Puja

• Now we will start Puja

How to Start Pooja:

• First of all we will do the Tilak of Shiv Parvati Ganesha Karthik and Both the Karwa and the Calendar that we have Paste on the Wall.

• At First we will offer water to the Karwa,karwa chauth Calender and goddess.

• Then Tilak will be done with Chandan,Sindoor and Akshat.

• After this we will offer Flowers to the God.

• Then offer Suhag items to the Maa Parvati ( I have not done as I will be observing Teej Also so mom and mom-in Law i don't have to offer Suhag items as i am doing this in Hartalika Teej). Sughag items include Chudi (Bangles),Bindi,Alta,Mehndi, Comb and whatever you want).

• After this we will offer the BHOG. Bhog can include the following.

1. Sweets

1. Pua or MalPua

1. Poori

1. supari Kept on Bettel Leaves.

• Also keep the gift you have bought for your Mother-In-Law. Mainally people will keep Saree. AS i am leaving alone with my Husband so i have kept money for her and whenever i will visit her i will purchase something and will gift her.

Story Time

• Keep Akshat or wheat seeds on to your hand and resite or Listen to the Karwa Chauth Story.

• When the story is finished tie the akshat in one corner of your Saree.

• Now we will do aarti of Shiv Parvati and Ganesh.

• Now we have to Wait for Moon to Rise

Moon Rise.

• When moon rise take a chalani (sieve),Brass Vessel (in which you kept Water), Flower and go to a open area or on the Rooftop of your house or Apartment.

• With the Help of chalani see moon and offer him water then akshat that you have tied in one end of your saree Corner. Offer him Sweets and Deep and do prayers.

• Now with that chalani see your husband and do prayers for long life of your husband.

• Touch the Feet of your Husbacd.

• Now the Women will break the fast with  first sip of water and the first bite of food are offered by the husband.

• After this all the family members will have dinner. But the Dinner should be made without onion and Garlic

Hello Friends, we all still remember the our chilhood. When after  hot, humid summer come first rain drops pour we all used to something in our childhood. Today sitting in my balcony in the evening I smell sudden sweet fragrance. A fragrance which brought back childhood memories. वो मिट्टी की सोंधी सोंधी महक जब पहली बरसात की बुँदे धरती पर परती है. and we all friend will come out from  our respective homes to get drencehed in the rain.

Really I am missing all these moments. I am missing the following:

It must be Sunday or any other holiday. Everyone mom,dad,brothe sister are at home and suddenly rain starts.Outside its raining. Its evening time and mom is preparing Tea for the evening. Then dad says lets have some "गर्मागर्म पकौड़े " along with the Tea. Kyun "अब कुछ याद आया अपना बचपन"

Last weekend we had a long weekend Friday being Ugadi followed by Sat and Sunday. Me and and my husband just planned for a trip to ooty and thus went for a 2 day trip to Ooty and Coonoor.

Ooty is also known as ootacamund ir udsagamandalam is located in the mountains of Nilgiri and is positioned at an attitude of 7500 feet from sea level and is approximately 300 kms from Bangalore by Road.

We dint get any cab as we decided to go to ooty at the very last time. Finally My hubby decided to drove car from Bangalore to Ooty.

Day 1: March 24,2012:

The Trip to Ooty was decided just like that. So in the morning my husband just googled the searah and we decided to take the route and the route that we decided to took was Bangalore->Mysore->Bandipur>-> Mudumalai >Ooty.
Mysore ia approx 170 Kms from Bangalore. As today was the first day of Navratri, so we need to Puja and both were on fast. After Completing our Puja and daily stuff. We started from our Home at 01:00 P.M.  From the place where we live, we have a NICE Road that connects to Mysore. So we decided to take that route so as to avoid the hassle of Traffic conditions.Soon we we left the city and we were in the highway. We took 45 minutes break in Mysore as my hubby was tired of driving. Then our next destination was BANDIPUR (which is a forest area).

Bandipur is a National Park which is approx 80 KM  from Mysore. We reached Bandipur near about 5 or 5:30 P.M.Soon we both crossed Bandipur forest and entered the forest area of Mudumalai which is also forest area in Tamilnadu. So we were in Tamil nadu Nadu. it was getting dark and till now we didn't crossed the GHATS. It was almost 6:00 t0 6:30 P.M. when we entered Ghats.

The Ghat section starts soon after we complete Mudumalai Forest.As we moved further in the Ghats Section the air become thinner and cooler.It was getting dark so we decide on our way back to Bangalore. we will hault at this places.

Finally we reached Ooty around 08:00 P.M. in the night. We have never been to Ooty before. For both of us it was out first visit. Then we drove us to a Hotel name "Ganghotri". It was quite decent. We booked the room. We both were very hungry as we both was on fast. So We ordered Fruit salad and two cups of Tea.
We had that and my hubby was very tired because of hours of driving. So we decided to take a rest and start our trip from next day.
